Live notifications, boxscores, and everything a Greek basketball fan needs.

Belgrade. We love to think we are working in the city of basketball. But, our Athenian friends might have a different opinion. Whoever had a chance to watch a live basketball match of Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, PAOK, AEK, or any other big Greek club, knows what an experience that is.

Well, we could not get close to that, but we wanted to offer the next best thing through ESAKE's mobile app. The first version of the Greek Basketball League's app had all the content you might expect. Latest news and analyses, which they prepare for their website.

Live info from the match is pulled from Genius Sports, their official data provider. This data goes into a Match Centre in the app, which provides information pre-game (stat leaders and team stats comparisons), during the match (live boxscore and live match stats), and post-game.

During the first season of the cooperation, we upgraded it with a Player Centre, which includes the player's basic personal information, as well as season statistics. In the app, wherever you tap on the name of the player, you are redirected to this information.

Videos from ESAKE's Youtube channel are automatically imported, the moment they are published. It is something ESAKE is now developing further, and we are looking forward to introducing a completely new app experience with videos in 2022-23.

Social posts are imported from the league and all the clubs and are available to the fans in one place - like a small Greek Basketball League's social network.

The app user can choose what to follow - get notifications of their favorite team or all teams, news notifications, or only livescore.

We did our best for the first season and were flattered by ESAKE's response. Sotiris Katoufas made us blush: "We aim to be one of the greatest leagues in Europe with complete digital services. Appworks’ offer was so attractive. It was the first time that someone understood our wishes. Our cooperation started well and we are very happy with it, hoping it will continue in the future. We appreciate Appworks coming to Athens to meet us live and are very excited about the ideas we have talked about."

After these kind words, we have to go a step further. The real job starts after the successful launch. We aim to put the fans' experience forward.

More videos are just one thing. Secondly - we will move from the "play-by-play" format of live notifications to those more stats-based. You always want to know the score and time, but you might not always be interested in the "layup for 2 points", all the while wanting to learn about the top scorer and rebounder at the moment.

Additionally, we are starting to improve interaction with the fans. Gamification through polls and quizzes will be a part of the app - fans will be able to vote and predict, so as to collect points and earn digital or real-life rewards. We love working with organizations with a strong vision - and Esake's vision to be among the top basketball leagues in digital content is exactly that. Amazingly, Appworks is a part of that growth.
